OK, so there was a brief hiatus there but I'm about to start posting again soon. I've been struggling over the past two months with a mold infestation (which made me very sick) and the resulting move to a new apartment with all the associated hassles. Above is a photo of the apartment flora from which I fled. One lesson this experience has given me: tenants, not unlike office workers in New York, have fewer rights than I realized. When I called HPD to report the mold and schedule an inspection, the earliest they could come take a look at it was a month and a half later. I didn't want to spend that much time (I don't know who would) hanging out with the mushrooms in order to make a point. And thus my complaint, probably like those of many tenants, will now vanish into thin air, and someone new will move into an apartment that has only been cosmetically refurbished, and will spend years wondering why they are getting so sick all the time.
